In 2025, 1,129 people in the Växjö diocese actively chose to become members of the Swedish Church, an increase of 38 percent compared to 2024. This is the largest rise in the diocese in the 21st century. Active membership requires individuals to be at least 12 years old and to have made the choice themselves; baptized children are not counted.
Bishop Fredrik Modéus said the numbers are very encouraging, as members contribute to the church's ability to gather people for community and worship, support the vulnerable, maintain church buildings, and offer activities like children's and choir programs. Nationally, 20,151 people aged 12 and over joined the Swedish Church in 2025, up from 14,974 in 2024. At the same time, 43,993 people left the church, with all ages included in that count.
